S1E22 – Lil San Deezies

Can you believe we are wrapping up our first season? We are so proud and excited to reflect on our first year of podcasting, local summer nights, and this friggin pandemic. We’ve been aged in the barrels for a few years, so listen up lil San Deezies!

This week’s creature comforts are classic combos of coffee and cannabis, yum. Kelli ordered True Meds delivery of Summer Nights, a hyphy sativa blend that is perfect for December. If you are from a coastal town, then you know that the true locals summer is in, well, the winter! San Diego has been showing off glorious weather and we are loving the locals only vibes. Goodbye crowds, we never missed you.

Adrianna listens intently to Kelli’s story of being 30, seasoned, and wine boosh. White girl wasted and frivolously spending too much money on a Cab Sav, hear about a magical trip to the mountains! It’ll energize you like CAH-CAINE, err, Cacao does on a bright sunny Saturday.

This week’s small business is close to our heart, as Kelli has been eating from Sipz Vegetarian Restaurant for years! We love @sipzcafe and I seriously order garlic fries, a Thai iced tea and summer rolls every week. EVERY WEEK.

Would you buy a coffee table book of Poshmark Idiots? Well look out and watch your Amazon carts, because we really have something good here. Thanks for an amazing season everyone, and get ready for a really exciting SEASON 2 with some fantastic new features, guests, and *cough cough* weeeeeeeeeee-d!

S1E15 – Keef the Sneak

Greetings, earthlings! It’s Kelli and Adrianna here, so excited to chat about a few of our favorite things! Some of this week’s highlights include an antique green dresser set with lion-head Lannister knobs, our dire need for matching cast-iron tattoos, and finding jalapenos in the bathroom. Take a shot every time Kelli says “here’s the deal’, and cheers to another great episode!
Welcome to Great-Great-Housekeeping, where we finish what we start, tie up loose ends, and try our best to to finish our sentences from a week prior. You can:-Push Streaming Daisies (mentioned E13 and E14 this season) on Prime Video! There are two seasons available. And also, DEXTER.-Is FML still a website? Yes, and it is as depressing as your facebook feed. FMYLIFE.COM from our teenage years has taken a turn, with awkward humor poking fun at sexism, ableism, racism, and actual fuck-my-life situations. No comic relief on their front; good thing you have our podcast to bring joy to your life. …’They’re welcome’…
-The pumpkin carving show on Hulu that Adrianna watched in her bathtub is called ‘Halloween Wars’ and it is a Food Network series 🙂
This season, we want to help you give FREE and thoughtful homemade, holiday gifts! Each episode until the end of the year, we will be giving excellent gift ideas for any of the holidays that you celebrate. Whether you love Christmas, Yuletide, Hannukuh, or you are atheist and just f*cking love the holidays, we got yo’ back. Tune in for this week’s FREE and crafty item! You’ll need a recycled, glass jar, so save your Not Your Nonna’s Jar and get naughty with us.
This week’s local business that we are featuring is Yasu Kochi Farms! Visit yasukochifamilyfarms.com for most recent information about their fantastic farm boxes. Kelli has been receiving boxes from this CSA for months now! Our friends, moms, and friend’s moms love this box of gorgeous and local produce that gets delivered to your door. No, we aren’t sponsored! We just love Yasu Kochi and hate Walmart, and you can tune in to find out why.
For our creature comforts, we made a vegan dip from our zucchini and yellow squash from the Yasu Kochi farm box. Sautee 1 chopped zucchini and 2 small yellow squashes with: EVOO, garlic salt, pepper, and fajita seasoning. Using the stiryfry and it’s juices, blend until applesauce consistency and use for dipping chips or raw veggies! 🙂 Cost? 75 cents, no joke.

set up for success and setting the scene 🙂

Adrianna rolled us some Wedding Cake from Clayborne Brand’s ‘Power Pack’, and Kelli rolled some NY Sour Diesel from TruGreenMeds medical cannabis delivery in SD. Normalize Cannabis! It is our job as privileged white women to stand proudly and bravely in a plume of smoke. You don’t have to be a cannabis consumer to be a cannabis normalizer. Get high, or get out of our way! We have souls to save from needless incarceration. You think marijuana and racism aren’t related? Think again, Satan. S1E13: Lil Hallowayne

Have you heard are sPoOoOoKy intro? Amazing, right?! Thank you to our creative masterminds, Adrianna and producer Justin @mixedbytruelove, for making our creaky door dreams a reality. We are so incredibly excited to announce that we are officially on APPLE PODCASTS! Yahoo! We have been waiting for this killer n’ thriller moment. Yay!

On this week’s episode, the queen of unpopular opinion talks about her fierce love for bombardier jackets, but a fierce hate for book jackets. New to the bombardier scene? We are too; see below for an image of this iconic ass jacket!

Thanks for the history lesson, veteran cutie from the DMV! #grandpamagnet

Ya’ll ever fiercely argued about how much you agree with one another? Somehow, you end up screaming at each other sweet nothings like, ‘EXACTLY’, ‘I KNOW’, or ‘THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID’. We fiercely agree more than we realize! We are quite literally lit, dare we say thunderstruck, our excitement to be on the same page!

GREAT Housekeeping! This new segments in our podcast addresses all of our mentionables, works cited, activism and after-thoughts. Because we are talking all-things-costumes, we wanted to give a friendly reminder that education cultural appropriation should be your #1 priority this holiday season. With so many excellent costumes to honor and create, let’s kick white racist costumes to the CURB.

Teen Vogue – My Culture is Not your Costume

Let’s ditch the grass skirts, and pick up some actual grass! This week’s cannabis comfort is TIKI RAIN, a flower strain from OutCo that we thoroughly enjoyed this week.

We sure do mention a lot of random shit in this episode, so let’s get cracking! First things first, Chimpanzee on a Segway is an iconic video that you can still stream at your leisure. I am SO SORRY that this annoying song will be in the rest of your head for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. 13 years later and I am going STRONG.

Our small business this Saturday? @Knotsandfinds! Adrianna talks about these MAGNIFICENT witch hat earrings that she ordered for her lovely motha for her birthday this past week.

You can find Paige’s talented art on her Etsy shop- click here!

Tune in for next week’s HALLOWEEN EPISODE, the second of our two-part holiday festivities. We absolutely love halloween and celebrate the holiday year-round.

‘I WANT A BRAD SO BAD!’ See you next week, OMies 🙂 As always, we love to hear from you! Follow us on Instagram and make our dreams a reality.

You can also stream our podcast for FREE on fireside.fm! Click here to listen.

Kelli brings a ton of excitement to the episode because 11 is her very favorite number! Kicking off the podcast with memories, sparks and snacks, Adrianna and Kelli take a few trips down memory lane. With undertones of S1E7: Ya Big Creep, take a peek into a day in the life.

We always promote a small business each episode, and for this feature we are so jazzed to talk about Wicky Woman Candles! Not only did Adrianna purchase a seasonal candle from WWC, but she can also refill it at any time, taking this sustainable and eco-friendly company a hella must 🙂

Instagram: @wickywomancandles

Happy Birthday to Adrianna’s ma, QUEEN Zizzo! May you feel festive as fuck.

We love hearing from you! Email us at: karmasdpodcast.com

Interested in being a special guest on our show? We’ll spoil you rotten! Reach out to us on @karmasdpodcast Instagram for more information. We love talking small business, and the only request we ask of our guests is to be CANNABIS positive! Does this mean you need to smoke for 82 minutes while we record? Certainly not, but we HIGHLY suggest it 🙂 You can advocate for the normalization of cannabis simply by loving and listening to us. Our goal is to make cannabis as normal as a glass of wine; instead of standing in our way, help us open the door! We respect your choices, and as our guest you’ll certainly respect ours. We love you!!

Quarantine Crafting Queen Activities – #ThankfulThursday

Well aren’t I a quarantine crafting queen! What have you been doing to keep busy? I know many have their hands full with working at home and having littles, so I am appreciating the luxury of being able to knit and already having so many extra supplies so that I do not have to spend any money. All situations are different and all are suffering, so I am doing my part and trying to stay sane in the meantime. Aren’t we all?

Some of my favorite crafts that have been keeping us busy:

1. Knitting beanies and plant sleeves with a KNITTING LOOM

2. Finally putting all those puzzles together that have been stacking up in our game cabinet

3. Bake a recipe that requires more than one step- I made cinnamon streusel!

4. Rearrange the entire house to remove stifled and stagnant energy. Bonus points if you are able to bring some of your outdoor plants into the house!

5. Notice things that you haven’t before, like your book titles that are put in upside down in the shelf. Ha- it took being upside down in yoga practice for me to notice this!

6. Check on our free little library! Using safe social distancing and sanitization practices, we have loved being able to walk outside, get some fresh air, and see how many people have been reading a little bit more than they are used to! The collective is appreciative of these libraries as resources because all city libraries are closed

7. Love on your fur babies- letting our dog stay in our bed a little bit more than he usually is allowed. I think he is getting fat!

8. Making and watching YouTube videos- my favorite past time, as I have a few months of catching up to do with Jenna Marbles.

Happy reading and viewing friends! Stop drop and stretch right now!

Alaska Reading Vibes and TEOTWAWKI- #WellReadWednesdays

I love reading!

Thank you mum, for my copy of The Great Alone. She knows me so well, and I have found all of my best books from my mama!

For me, there is a direct correlation between reading and sanity. If my mental health is poor, I can guarantee that I haven’t been reading. Or, the book I tried reading was a dud and I am just not SUCKED IN. These days, I have been having a hard time pushing through books that aren’t serving me. Perhaps I am just getting older, not wasting my time, but old-me definitely made myself finish the book, front to back. A half read novel was a horrible waste of time, and I never did so. Until now! Ha. I have half-read about 10 books before THE GREAT ALONE took my breath away. I absolutely loved it, flew through the pages and am adding it to one of my favorite books of all time. Go for it.

The elements that captivated me? The descriptive language for Alaskan landscape, the description of ‘the break-up’ in Spring when all the ice and snow melts, a window into physical abuse, PTSD, alcoholism, and rich 1970’s history. Bonus points for outfit and food descriptions, I live for being a fly on their wall!

Reading powers ACTIVATED! I have been able to read daily ever since, and have picked up some surprising novels to ease my anxieties.

TEOTWAWKI- An acronym for The End of the World as we Know it, was also a really fun read this week. Someone bought this book for Josh many moons ago; I was fiending for a good book and trying to fill the gaping hole in my heart that The Great Alone had created. I was not disappointed!

Very sensical, I started to trust the author when I found out he is an Army Veteran. He is also not using a fear-based pedestal to stand on. The most eerie part of the book? The first page, literally page X in my copy, paints a scene of the exact pandemic that we are in right now. Chills down my spine, I read the first few sentences to Josh and to my mom, totally amazed at his accuracy from a 2009 publication. I created a fun list for us to work with, and it was a fun project to work on as nerd survivalists 🙂 #dreamdate

If you like making lists of lists, and always list your life, then this book will work swimmingly for you. I flew through the pages and am ready to get out of dodge!

Happy reading OMies ❤

Photo Dump – #MuseMonday

Need an activity to curbe your anxiety? PHOTO DUMP is one of my favorite writing prompts and activities that keeps my anxiety at bay. Once a week, not only will you:

-Clean out your camera roll

-Stay organized technologically

But you will also reflect on moments that you deemed photo-worthy. You’ll work on your memory recall, and exercise your writing muscle!

When you write about your ‘PHOTO DUMP, choose 10-15 photos in your camera roll. Then, explain what you see to a person. You must select a specific person.

For example, tell your coworker Sheryll about what she is looking at in the 15 photos! Tell your grandma about what you see! Tell your best friend! You take on different tones, depending on what you are describing and who you are describing it to.

I love this writing prompt and have been using it for years. Enjoy! Today, I am describing what I see to my best friend, Adrianna. See photo captions!

Soyrizo Burrito Bowl – Vegan EATS Sprinkled with Signs from the Universe

A lovely meal indeed- these photos are so special to me! When I need to meditate and travel elsewhere, I take myself to this very scene. Let me paint it for you!

In 2018, my lovely commune of 5 OMies, 1 dog, and 4 chickens was forced to disband, as we received an eviction notice from our landlord. Since then, this house has been torn down. We mourned for this house. Yes, we were sad that we had to disperse and go our separate ways, but we were also saddened by this historic house being torn down.

We felt honored to be the last people that lived in the house before it was torn down. She was celebrating her 100th birthday, as this house was built in 1918 and smelled, looked, and mimicked all other old houses in the Hillcrest and North Park area.

On one of our last mornings in the house, I cooked myself breakfast. I know it was the last time I sat at a table and chair and ate a meal there- as I am sure that we packed these bowls and mugs shortly after this picture was taken.

First, the food- SOYRIZO gluten free burrito bowl ingredients:

  • Soyrizo- cooked until crunchy and crumbly
  • can of black beans
  • a bed of Late July corn tortilla ships
  • 1 ripe organic avocado– none better than from here in San Diego!
  • -sauteed garlic, yellow onion and a few red/orange peppers
  • -blop of garlic hummus

I took my gigantic bowl of soyrizo, and my coffee (I wonder where that starbucks mermaid cup went….) and I sat down underneath a lattice-worked patio. The wisteria had beautifully bloomed over the house, an unexpected surprise. Blankets of purple, gorgeous smells, and whimsical winds whipped through our patio. All good things come to an end, and the petals started to fall. In fact, they fell into my food and my coffee, which prompted some research.

Wisteria is edible! So, when lovely purple flowers float into your meal space- EAT EM. I can close my eyes and sit at this patio, swaying with the plumey purple breeze and munching on this meal. To date, one of our most favorite meals. We make it once a week, I’m sure of it!

Thanks for reading. I love vegan eats and love suggestions! For today’s Thankful Thursday, I am truly thankful for the time to look back and reflect on old photos and memories. It has been very therapeutic, a great privilege, and an unforeseen benefit of this restorative pandemic. I will never take access to vegan food for granted! Thank you quarantine for humbling me and reminding me of how truly grateful I am for food. Let’s just say…I can’t wait to eat out at every vegan restaurant in San Diego when this is over! I miss the luxury of being cooked for. My musings….

Need free and accessible chair yoga for yourself, your grandma, your loved one, your next family dinner? Pull up a chair and join me!

Reminiscing on Reading- #WellReadWednesday

My favorite author- Haruki Murakami!
As I turned teach page, it fell out! Old spine, passed the book along to a friend in a ziplock bag
I love a good murder mystery- with a booch in hand! Thanks husband for growing all those pretty flowers in our yard 🙂

I love reading and know that I have my head screwed on straight if I am able to stop, drop and read. Recently, I’ve been having a hard time getting into a book. I’ll read a few chapters and slowly float away. Trying again today! I love when a book is also available a as a movie. I will try to finish some of the books I have, knowing there is the motivation of a motion picture afterwards. Anyone else?

I prefer paper books, but I have access to a nook and electronic reader. Book suggestions please! 🙂

Xo, Kelli
